National Finalists Announced: Scapegrace Uncharted Spirits

The Scapegrace Judging panel was “Blown away” with the quality of submissions received for the 2024 Cocktail competition.

We recently kicked off our national search for New Zealand’s top cocktail creator, offering four all-expenses-paid trips to Central Otago and a cash prize.

The Scapegrace: Uncharted Spirits cocktail competition comes with a twist - bartenders were tasked with crafting a cocktail that highlights a distinct element of New Zealand’s terroir.

'When we set the task of exploring a new or 'Uncharted' regions of New Zealand, and showcasing it in cocktail format, I guess we had a vision of what we wanted to see, yet we were equally uncertain about what would actually come our way' Said Mikey Ball, Scapegarce’s Advocacy and Flavour Development Specialist.

'We were blown away with the level of research, lateral thinking and overall production effort poured into these finalists’ drinks. The lengths that some have gone to understand and create a drink that signifies a region is inspiring, we are talking multiple deep dives and dimensions of research that have uncovered ingredients you would never think to see in cocktails, all with meaning and purpose in the end.'

National Finals - Scapegrace Distillery

The four regional winners will be travelling to Central Otago in hope of being crowned the Scapegrace National Winner and walking away with a cash prize of $1000!

The final will be held on November 5th, inside the newly finished Scapegrace Distillery. Each competitor will present their drink again in front of a new judging panel, including the founders of Scapegrace.

This will be one of the first times, we have had a group of people into the distillery, so what better way of christening it, with our very first national cocktail competition. The regional competitions showed the quality and depth of cocktail makers we have here in NZ. We can’t wait to see Cal, Brooke, Zora and Niamh raise the bar again. We are super excited to host them down south, for what should be a great few days!’

- Tim Giles, Scapegrace Sales & Marketing Manager.
